Dr. Abraham Owen, an Evansville Surgeon and investor, built the Second Empire structure in 1882.
It consisted of four townhouses. Owen and his family lived in one townhouse and he rented out the
other three. In the 1950's it was converted to apartments. Considered by the Evansville Preservation
Alliance as one of the most endangered buildings in Evansville, the Owen Block is the only Second
Empire structure to survive downtown. It is in dire need of a benevolent buyer.
