Dr. Jeremiah Jackson
Evansville, Indiana

Dr. Jeremiah Jackson was born in Jeffersonville, Indiana in 1870 and was the first black to graduate from the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Jackson practiced medicine in Evansville for nearly 60 years.

Politically outspoken, Jackson worked for the right for blacks to live outside traditionally designated areas.

Dr.Jackson was a dedicated individual who put human life over material wealth and reportedy never refused aid to any patient because of color or lack of funds.
