Phi Alpha Theta is a national professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. We seek to bring students, teachers and writers of history together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist historical research and publication by our members in a variety of ways.

The University of Southern Indiana's Alpha-Delta-Kappa chapter of Phi Alpha Theta, the national history honors society was begun in 1985.

Prospective members should have completed at least 12 hours in history (4 courses). Students must also have a GPA of 3.1 or better in history courses and an overall GPA of 3.0 for membership. Interested students should contact Dr. Jason Hardgrave regarding membership. Please also consult the national Phi Alpha Theta web page for additional details.
